About Us

We are a home-based wellness practice located in the SE Calgary community of McKenzie Towne. In 2020 we bought a house and converted the basement into a treatment room. Jess practices acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), while Breanne practices massage therapy. Our practice is largely referral based. Please keep in mind that we have a cat (named Arty) in our home.

Registered Massage Therapy (RMT) with Breanne

My journey...

I can't honestly say that I spent my whole life dreaming of becoming a massage therapist. I came to massage therapy in a bit of a roundabout way. In the beginning stages of carving out a viable career path for myself, I discovered that I was actually much more interested in studying the human mind than I was interested in studying the human body.

In University I studied both psychology and philosophy, and enjoyed it so much that I spent my final 2 years of undergrad preparing for graduate school. I wrote a Bachelor’s level thesis on self-talk, and applied to law school with a 4.0 GPA. I had every intention of becoming a lawyer (until I actually went to law school).

In 2014 I chose to leave the world of academia and followed my heart to India. I completed my first yoga teacher training certification in Rishikesh, and then travelled to Saoner to immerse myself in Tantric practices at Shivoham Ashram. I stayed in India for nine months.

When I returned to Canada, I continued to take yoga teacher training courses (I have certifications in pre and post natal, yin, iRest yoga nidra meditation, and Critical Alignment Therapy) until I eventually started teaching. I quickly realized that teaching group yoga classes in a way that is safe for everybody is hard (almost impossible), and that my 500(+) hours of teacher training had grossly unprepared me for the array of bodies and bodily injuries that would ultimately present themselves in my classes. This led to my transition away from teaching group yoga classes, and toward working with private clients as a massage therapist.

Before I committed to a two-year massage therapy diploma, I studied fascia and acupressure out of personal interest. Exposure to these two holistic systems early in my career has greatly influenced the way that I see and treat the human body, and my treatments often integrate fascial work (ex. cupping, stretching) and specific acupressure techniques as a result. Over the years I have expanded my practice to include other holistic, light-touch therapies such as Chikly's Lymphatic Drainage Therapy and Upledger's CranioSacral Therapy.

My massage treatment style is a mix between therapeutic and relaxation, with a slow, intentful, medium-firm pressure. I do not subscribe to the "no pain, no gain" model, and kindly request anyone seeking a painful massage to book with a different therapist. I often tell clients that the pressure should be enough to keep you fully present, but not so much that it pushes you into your pain threshold. My ideal client will be attentive to present moment sensations and breath throughout the treatment, and take a proactive approach to wellness by booking their massage therapy treatments several weeks or months in advance, rather than booking a last-minute appointment only in response to injury or pain.

Although I continue to practice massage therapy on a part time basis, my personal and professional interests are shifting increasingly toward the study of somatics and trauma. By the end of 2024, I will have completed Peter Levine's three year continuing education program on Somatic Experiencing and several years of study with Upledger's SomatoEmotional Release, allowing me to blend elements of somatic work with massage therapy and offer a more integrative and trauma-informed treatment experience.

One of my favourite parts about being a massage therapist is that it allows me the opportunity to practice being an empathetic witness. Above everything else, what is most important to me as a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) is that you feel heard and that we find a way to work together to create a space where you feel safe and supported to breathe and feel deeply.

Acupuncture and Coaching With Dr. Jess

Hey! My name is Dr. Jess Reynolds (but I mostly go by Jess). I am a Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Integrative Medicine, an Acupuncturist and a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). My practice has been tremendously gratifying, and through it I have had the opportunity to work with many people — helping them heal, body mind and spirit.

I have been teaching in the classroom for the last seven years, and have been told by students and colleagues alike that it is my purpose. The focus of my lectures has been Psychology, Personal Growth, Nutrition, Orthopedic Assessment and Functional Medicine. My passion, however, is in self-development of any kind. I am a true believer in becoming the best version of yourself.

Between my clinical practice and teaching experience, I have gained a wealth of knowledge in the world of health and wellness.

Frequently asked questions...

What is your cancellation/no-show policy?

We understand... life happens! If you need to cancel your appointment for any reason, please let us know ahead of time. If you fail to show up for a scheduled appointment without reason, we require that 100% of the missed treatment fee be paid in full before any subsequent sessions are booked.

How can I pay for my session?

We accept cash or interact e-transfer.

How long do I need in between sessions?

The body needs 2-3 days to heal after treatment. After your initial treatment, you may be advised to rebook 3 days later. Some clients benefit from one treatment per week. Some clients benefit from one treatment every 6 weeks.

Can I book an acupuncture treatment with Dr. Jess followed by a massage with Breanne?

Yes, this is a very restorative treatment combination! Typically we offer a combination of 45 minutes of acupuncture with Dr. Jess, immediately followed by 60 minutes of massage therapy with Breanne. If you have a complex case requiring a full assessment, be prepared for 60 minutes of acupuncture, followed by 60 minutes of massage therapy. Whether or not a full assessment is needed will be determined upon arrival.

Do you provide mobile sessions?

Dr. Jess does not provide mobile acupuncture sessions.

Breanne provides mobile sessions to a select number of clients only, at an additional cost. The travel fee is calculated by using the amount of time it takes Breanne to travel from McKenzie Towne to your location. Factors such as weather, and traffic related delays will be included when determining the amount of time needed to travel to your location.

16 - 25 minutes... +$30

26 - 35 minutes... +$40
36 - 45 minutes... +$50

46 - 55 minutes... +$60

Do you offer direct billing?

No. We will email you a receipt at the end of your session that can be submitted to your Alberta insurance provider for reimbursement.

Does treatment include use of the sauna?

All massage therapy treatments include an optional 15 minutes of additional time in the infrared sauna, either before or after your treatment. If you would like to use the sauna, please bring swimwear to your appointment and let your practitioner know.

Do you have a waiting room? How early should I arrive for my appointment?

Unfortunately we do not have a waiting room. Please do not arrive any earlier than 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment. Our preference is that you arrive as close to your appointment time as possible, and that you arrive alone. If you arrive more than 10 minutes before your scheduled appointment, please wait in your car. Please do not bring your significant other, kids, or pets to your appointment.

What should I wear?

That depends on your treatment.

Acupuncture and Registered Massage Therapy (RMT): you will undress and remain covered underneath the sheets. Only the area being worked on will be exposed. Most clients keep their underwear on, though this is up to the client. The therapist will always ensure that you are properly draped with a sheet.

Fascial Stretch Therapy (FST) and Critical Alignment Therapy (CAT): please wear comfortable, athletic clothing (no buttons, no zippers, no jeans).

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) and Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT): you have the option to remain fully clothed. Comfortable, loose clothing is recommended.
